Melissa and Jesse met while they were each attending school at University of the Pacific. They were both taking a Spanish class and spotted each other from across the room. A friend from Melissa’s swim team took it upon himself to set them up. The two began talking more often, going on dates, and spending time together. They dated until the end of spring semester, and then split for the summer. In the subsequent years, they would occasionally run into each other at school, but the timing was never right.
About three years later Jesse ran into one of Melissa’s friends (and now current Matron of Honor, Siobhan) and happened to mention that Melissa was the “one that got away.” Melissa took note of this, and with the help of some wine, she gave Jesse a call one night just to say hi. This phone call altered both of their paths—Jesse was finishing up school and in the process of moving back to Ojai at this point, and Melissa lived in San Diego—but they were able to visit back and forth until Jesse got a job offer in San Diego, which brought them together more permanently.
Eventually, it was time to pop the question, and while Melissa has always joked that Jesse is not a planner, he proved her wrong. On December 16, 2017 Jesse packed a picnic with their favorite snacks and popped the question at Sunset Cliffs. He even hired a photographer to document the big moment, and had family waiting at their apartment to celebrate!
We are so glad she said yes, because we’re having the best time planning their June 2019 wedding, which will be held at Topa Mountain Winery in Ojai, Jesse’s hometown. These amazing engagement photos are just a sneak peak of how magical their wedding day is sure to be!
