Kyla and Austin are the epitome of our ideal client working with them felt like we had been friends for years.
Working with Kyla and Austin was so natural, it felt like we had been friends for years. Kyla is a creative: she teaches yoga, she writes, and she reads tarot. Austin works in production, and he was the man with the plan! It was effortless and endlessly rewarding to get to guide them in bringing their vision to life. This feeling continued on their magical day, which was filled with amazing guests and seriously special photos.
Kyla and Austin met while attending the University of Connecticut in 2008, and they began dating in 2009. Together they made the leap and moved to California in 2011, where they now reside in Santa Monica. In 2016, they traveled home to New England for Christmas. While in Newport, Rhode Island, Austin popped the question! While living in California, the couple had visited Ojai on several occasions, and since they have some family living in the valley, they decided on The Ojai Retreat & Inn to host their sacred celebration--and boy are we glad! They connected with White Sage and our sister company, White Sage Catering through The Ojai Retreat. The dream team was quickly assembled when photography with Ojai locals, Burgundy Blue; florals with Ojai Blooms; and makeup by Rogue Styling were also booked.
Kyla and Austin wanted to have a private legal ceremony prior to the big day, so vows were exchanged at the Santa Barbara courthouse. They still envisioned a wedding ceremony, and since the legal end was complete, they got to be creative. An officiant was not needed--instead they wrote their own ceremony, so they could share their love and gratitude for those closest to them. For an extra special sentiment, they included their bridal party in warming their rings.
For dinner, Kyla created the most romantic floral theme by using naked, rustic pueblo tables, adorned with assorted vintage glass bottles that delicately contained single stem flowers, surrounded by loose, locally foraged eucalyptus greens. Her mismatched bridesmaids were comfortable in the cozy lounge, perfectly paired with a family member’s vintage truck bed pulled up for additional lounge seating.
Everything about their day was perfect: the gentle trickle of the waterfall garden, the view of The Ojai Pink Moment sunset from the reception terrace, the delicious Spanish-inspired dinner, hours of dancing to a full brass band, Lucky Devils, and fresh made donuts from Dazzling Donuts to top off the evening!
