Colleen and Miguel came to us with a clear vision of their big day. Wanting help with ensuring nothing fell through the cracks and some logistic work, they knew exactly the level of support they needed. As their wedding day approached, they valued having someone to take over all the details and communication, so ur Partial Planning package was the perfect fit. They booked Brooke almost a year in advance and so they got the full value of our comprehensive checklist in Aisle Planner. They kept up with tasks each month to ensure they kept on track. When their planning window finally arrived, we began meetings to help finalize all the little details. Talking through each of their carefully envisioned design ideas really helped to bring the day to life. Their venue, Carpinteria Lion’s Park, offered a beautiful outdoor ceremony backdrop and also an indoor reception space. It was close enough to home but also a little bit of a getaway.
Colleen and Miguel met on the dance floor at a friend’s wedding, and then ended up getting married on the same date 5 years later! Colleen knew Miguel was the one when she saw how he was with her dog. As for Miguel, he always knew it was her since the day they first met. Two years into dating, they decided to get a bunny named Poe, a black Holland Lop! And a year later they got Lucy, a white American Fuzz Lop. These two special babies were featured on their Save The Date invites, hand drawn and designed by a friend. Poe and Lucy were also their cake topper.
It was on their fifth anniversary that they booked a getaway to a Redwood Treehouse located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The weather was perfect for staying in and being cozy, cooking, and eating fresh pie from a local apple farm. It rained the entire time that they were there, and the power kept going out. This stressed Miguel a bit as he had planned to cook dinner and pop the question! When he finally relaxed they decided to do an anniversary gift exchange. Miguel had Colleen go first in the exchange; she got him a watch that he’d had his eye on. Miguel had gotten Colleen a jewelry dish with two bunny ears as ring holders, and she was very confused by this gift. He had asked her, “What this is used for?” and she continued to be confused. Miguel finally built up the courage and asked The Question! She was so shocked and surprised! After she calmed down, she understood why he had been so stressed out that evening. He admitted to her that he had asked Colleen’s dad and sister’s permission before hand, and that made Colleen cry. When she looked at the ring she realized that it was designed by Heidi Gibson, a designer she had mentioned loving! Finally the power came back on and Colleen was able to share the big news and text out pictures to friends and family!
Colleen did not see the proposal coming that weekend, even though she knew in her heart it would happen eventually. Miguel had been poking around and asking Colleen about her favorite ring designers—which included Heidi Gibson—but she never actually expected him to contact her! Heidi herself helped design the perfect ring especially for Colleen. When Miguel originally presented the ring to Colleen, it was moissanite in the center. But then before the wedding day, Miguel told Colleen that he needed to get the ring cleaned, and she insisted that was unnecessary. Miguel not only got the ring cleaned anyway, but he had the ring upgraded to a real diamond! Miguel kept this a secret until their First Dance at their wedding. Imagine her surprise!
The day of their wedding, Colleen and her closest ladies got ready on site. So many little details made their day special, from the florals designed by Colleen’s own mother to all the personalized touches, like the bunny details. Guests threw dried flower petals as they exited their ceremony. A lively Morrissey and The Smiths cover Mariachi group greeted everyone as cocktail hour unfolded. Guests found their tables decorated by all their favorite vinyl records. Each place setting featured personalized placemats with the couple’s favorite song lyrics, and an amazing caricature cookie of their bunny babies. Dinner from The Habit truck was topped off with dancing, cake, and a late night hot cheeto bar! Little did we know lime on hot cheetos was a thing, but YES IT IS! Words cannot express our joy for Colleen and Miguel. Thank you so much for allowing us to help with your BEST DAY EVER!
